I handload extra-heavy hunting rounds for my 308 Winchester using 220 grain soft point bullets. These rounds are meant for use on large to extra-large games to be shot under 100 yards. The 220 grain SP I usually use are from Remington (which is no longer available as a reloading component) and Hornady. I find the Sierra Pro-Hunt brand of this bullet is almost as good as the Remington CoreLok and Hornady InterLock brands. I load these bullets to a muzzle velocity of 2,230 f.p.s. when shot from 1-12 twist 20 inch barrel Sako A2 rifle. The Sierra is more accurate in that it produces 5 shot groups at 100 yards about 0.65 inches c-t-c vs. 0.80 to 1.0 inches vs. Hornady and Remington. However, the Sierra sheds more of its lead core material when it hits, and with a few of bullets the core were partially coming out of the jacket.
