The Hornady XTP Handgun Bullets is a performance enhanced XTP that is suitable for a wide range of applications from target shooting to plinking. These Pistol Bullets from the trailblazers at Hornady feature a hand-drawn gilding metal jacket is skillfully designed to vary the thickness of the jacket along its length. What this effectively does is cause controlled expansion as it should, and the energy needed to cause this type of expansion allows for higher velocities without the need for an expensive and time-consuming bullet seater. The XTPs popularity stems from their ability to expand reliably at a wide range of velocities, what makes them an incredibly all-round handgun bullet. I have always liked Hornady products and their XTP bullets are definitely a quality product. I was pleased and actually surprised that Optics Planet had them available. Although it took a couple of contacts to customer service, including a lengthy “on hold” phone call, I did get my order.

My state allows hunting of big game animals with a handgun. There is an Ft-LB of energy requirement at 50 yards. The 200 gr in this caliber does not retain enough energy to meet this requirement. The 180 gr is just past the required energy level. The 155 gr is way past the minimum required Ft-LBs of energy requirement. Plus at this lighter weight will maintain a better FPS to expand fully for maximum effect. Hornady to me seems to be the best bullet maker. The 10mm 155gr bullet retains the FPS, Energy, expansion to harvest an big animal. Without the recoil of an 41 mag revolver. If anyone needs a second shot to vital area. The 10mm 155 gr makes that easier to stay on target. If placed correctly. One shot should be enough. The 10mm 155gr also makes since to do 4 legged pest control / protection while in the mountains. For hunting I handload my own. My longest shot has been 23 yards. Shortest shot 6 yards. Mule deer or Elk. Protection against mountain lion attack. Handgun hunter since 1994. My experience has been. Handguns allow closer interaction with game animals. Scare them less. Like my 10mm a lot. Love the 155 gr hornady hollow point. I own a large number of calibers for big game hunting. The 10mm is the best I think. I also own a 500 S&W mag with 10 inch barrel. The 10mm has 6 inch barrel. Is lighter weight and easier to carry for long distance while walking. Will harvest big game nicely. My longest shot was 23 yards. I do not carry anything that looks like a stick (rifle or bow). My handgun is in the holster till needed. shoulder or across the chest holsters are best. Less movement to spook the animal. I do nothing to hide my smell. I do my best to not look like I'm carrying a stick. My semi auto 10mm holds 14 rounds for my protection against things that have 4 legs. Use only 6 rounds for hunting season. The Hornady 155 gr hollow point is the best at stopping power.

I’ve been reloading ammo for decades and I mainly use Hornady bullets in my reloads. I use a few more brands but Hornady bullets are very well made and reasonably priced. They’ve always worked well for me.
