After quite a bit of research on EDC defensive rounds I settled on getting a few boxes of these to do some testing and comparison. In both of my handguns these cycle perfectly, but my AR9 didn't like them much at all; repeatedly failing to fully cycle. This same AR9 cycled multiple other 115gr rounds just fine, so there's just something in this particular design that makes them not get along very well with this particular weapon, without further tuning. I don't say this to knock the round at all, it worked perfectly in my EDC guns and earned my top choice for my EDC ammo. I mention this only to underscore the importance of carefully testing ammo in your specific weapons — just because it works for someone else or in a different gun of your own doesn't mean it'll work for you and all your other guns. So while I've chosen these for my EDC guns I'll have to either tune my AR9 for these or look for a different defensive round for that particular platform.

Given the amount time time I have behind these rounds I would say they One of the best 9mm options for self defense. Multiple reasons beginning with its consistency. These round feed fire and make contact with target through many types of handguns weather it be a single stack micro pistol or a full duty pistol , these rounds function without error. With these rounds having a Flex Tip this allows for better penetration's with the least amount of pre expansion as you will find with most other brand of self defense ammo. When putting trigger time behind theses you will notice the lower recoil witch will help with your follow up shots hitting on more accurately on target. All in all these rounds are great if your looking for self defense 9mm ammuniton.

My favorite home defense round on the market! I’ve been stocking up on them for years. They shoot great and expand beautifully, and Hornady has never let me down. I choose to shoot Hornady rounds in all of my handguns and rifles.

The Critical Duty/Defense line is my new go to for overall performance and reliability for all calibers without over penetration which to me is paramount in a defense scenario where you need quick incapacitation and low flash powder for darker low lit areas. There may be better options for different applications but these certainly aren’t the worst choice. Hornady and Underwood brand are definitely something to consider.

Based on every measuring I could find over the past few years, this is absolutely the finest defensive9mm load for any 9mm pistol with less than a 3.4“ Barrel.
